E&S Property Underwriter (Level I or Level II)


Zurich is currently looking to hire an E&S Property Underwriter to join the team in Atlanta with the option to hire in New York City as well. The E&S Property Underwriter will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, regularly interacting and facing the market, under limited supervision, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers. In this role you will be working with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability.

This role will be filled at either the Underwriter (Level I) or Underwriter (Level II). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position


Responsibilities include:


  • Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience
  • Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing
  • Using risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale
  • Market facing and production within the E&S Property group 
  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
  • Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments


E&S Property Underwriter (Level I) Basic Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance area or Market Facing area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines


E&S Property Underwriter (Level II) Basic Qualifications: 


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience with Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 or more years of experience in Underwriting with emphasis on E&S Property Underwriting or Underwriting Support
  • Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office skills

The salary range for the Underwriter I role is $78,000-$97,500. The salary range for Underwriter II role is $98,800-$123,500. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.  This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
