What Can You Expect?
As a Software Asset Management Specialist - Governance, you will have the opportunity to:
- Define and continuously evolve the SAM Governance framework, including policies, standards, processes, ownership and accountability, and controls.
- Establish governance mechanisms that enable effective management of software cost, risk, compliance and value.
- Provide strategic SAM advice for software investments, renewals, contracts, technology decisions and major vendor relationships.
- Own the SAM governance data framework, ensuring data quality, consistency, transparency and fitness for decision – making across software assets, entitlements, consumption and financial information.
- Define and monitor SAM KPIs, dashboards and management information, translating complex data into actionable insights, risks, opportunities and recommendations for stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement of SAM data sources, processes and automation to increase reliability and reduce manual effort.
- Challenge software consumption, purchasing and renewal decisions to maximize value and minimize unnecessary spending.
- Partner with Procurement, Legal, Finance, IT, Security, Architecture and Business Units to ensure SAM considerations are embedded into relevant decision processes.
- Lead improvements in SAM processes, data quality, automation and reporting, leveraging technology and AI, where appropriate.
- Define and monitor governance KPIs, demonstrating measurable business impact.
- Complete SAM activities, and support daily activities in the function, when required.
- Define and lead the SAM communication strategy, ensuring the key messages, risks, opportunities, policies and decisions are clearly communicated to stakeholders at the appropriate level.
What Makes You a Great Fit?
We’re not seeking perfection, but we believe you’ll be a strong fit if you bring most of the following experience and capabilities:
Technical and SAM expertise
- 6+ years of relevant experience in Software Asset Management within large, complex enterprise IT environments, including hands-on software portfolio and governance responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of software licensing terms, restrictions and optimization opportunities, with hands-on effective license position calculations for at least one Tier 1 or Tier 2 vendor such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Broadcom, Cloud Software Group, SAP or Adobe.
- Experience with SAM tools, ideally Flexera One, advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, and proven delivery of cost optimization, risk reduction and compliance improvements.
- Experience managing SAM data quality, dashboards and reporting, plus practical adoption of AI solutions and automation in SAM.
Governance, financial and stakeholder management
- Proven experience developing or implementing governance frameworks, policies, processes and controls, and defining measurable KPIs.
- Ability to work across IT, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, Architecture and Business Units, influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including software cost impact, P&L calculations and accruals.
Personal skills
- Strategic and analytical thinking, attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to turn complex data into clear recommendations.
- Strong communication, networking and negotiation skills with internal stakeholders and software vendors.
- Effective organisation, productivity, time and project management skills in a complex global environment.
- Fluent spoken and written English, at strong B2 level or above.
