The Workforce AI & Automation Product Architect provides architecture leadership for one or more AI and automation products or closely related capabilities. The role converts product ambitions into compliant end-to-end designs across data, identity, integration, cloud, security, responsible AI, observability and operational support.

This is a hands-on product architecture role with Domain scope. Supported by the DEX Architecture Lead to align broader domain context, target state and cross-portfolio alignment. The Product Architect owns defined product architecture, contributes to domain roadmaps and develops towards wider domain architecture accountability.

The role works from discovery through implementation and live operation, partnering with product teams, engineers, vendors, risk and the Operations Factory. It shapes AI4DEX and automation patterns while ensuring human oversight, controls and service ownership are designed in from the start.

• Purpose. Provides expert advice, identifies functional and non-functional requirements, and interfaces with vendors and the enterprise architecture community to support the design of compliant solutions which meet business needs.

• Key Accountabilities. Lead assigned Workforce AI & Automation product and programme work streams by collaborating with product, business and technology stakeholders. Maintain a strong understanding of the relevant product and application portfolio. Independently perform defined end-to-end solution-design assignments, working within DEX domain direction and enterprise standards. Engage architecture and governance stakeholders to secure design approval and ensure approved standards and practices are followed throughout delivery and operational transition.

We are looking for a hands-on architect who combines credible AI and automation depth with the ability to connect product decisions to wider DEX and enterprise outcomes.

Product Architecture & Delivery

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Architecture or senior technical leadership for AI, automation, low-code, SaaS or digital products in a complex organisation.
• Experience translating functional and non-functional requirements into clear, compliant and implementable end-to-end designs.
• Ability to support product change from discovery and option assessment through implementation, assurance and operational transition.
• Practical design authority covering decisions, risks, dependencies, exceptions and technical debt.
• Credibility with engineers and vendors, supported by sufficient hands-on knowledge to challenge designs and guide delivery.

AI & Automation Expertise

The role requires strong expertise across the capabilities that enable enterprise AI and automation, including:

• Generative AI, copilots, agents, low-code or workflow automation and their engineering lifecycle.
• Data access and grounding, identity, APIs, integration, cloud services and orchestration.
• Responsible AI, privacy, security, resilience, observability, human oversight and operational accountability.
• Software, data and platform engineering practices needed to create scalable and supportable solutions.
• Evaluation of platform and vendor options without allowing architecture to become centred on one technology.

DEX & Operations Factory Alignment

The Product Architect connects product architecture to the wider DEX operating model. The successful candidate will:

• Align product designs to DEX domain direction, target architecture and enterprise standards.
• Identify reuse and integration opportunities across Digital Foundations, Digital Workplace and Workforce AI & Automation.
• Work closely with the Operations Factory on AI4DEX, workflow automation, operational intelligence and reusable automation patterns.
• Ensure products have clear support, lifecycle, service, control and human-in-the-loop models before scaling.
• Escalate cross-domain decisions and contribute evidence and product insight to the DEX Architecture Lead.

DEX Operating Model & Operations Factory

A differentiating capability for this role is the ability to connect domain architecture with end-to-end DEX and operational outcomes. The successful candidate will:

• Ensure Workforce AI & Automation capabilities integrate coherently with Digital Foundations and Digital Workplace products.
• Shape shared architecture patterns for AI4DEX, workflow automation, platform engineering, operational intelligence and reusable automation services.
• Ensure new capabilities have clear ownership, support, lifecycle, service and control models before deployment at scale.
• Prevent product and technology silos by designing for interoperability, reuse and end-to-end employee and operational outcomes.
• Mentor Lead Architects, solution architects, technical leads and Architecture Community Contributors across DEX.
• Contribute to DEX-wide architecture methods, standards, capability taxonomy, roadmaps, decision records and architecture measures.

Strategic Differentiators

Particularly attractive candidates are likely to have experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Demonstratable use of AI in their current way of working
• Understanding of AI architecture and one or more technology stacks
• Software development experience and understanding of low code, no code platforms
• Introducing architecture discipline into emerging AI, automation or citizen-development products.
• Working in financial services, insurance or another regulated industry.
