Our opportunity

We are looking for a temporary Actuarial/Data Science Analyst with R coding skills to join our Life Protection Unit (LPU) team, a global function providing guidance, oversight, and development advice for all Zurich’s life technical needs. The successful candidate will support a wider rollout of Experience Insights, to additional business units (BUs) and products.

 

Experience Insights investigates past claims and persistency, in our Life Protection business, to set appropriate assumptions for pricing future business. This technology enables LPU/BUs to perform their experience analysis using a modern Data Science (DS) platform, automate routine tasks, and develop more sophisticated analytics and greater collaboration with LPU. The platform is a key enabler for executing Zurich’s Life strategy.

 

The specific purpose of this role is to support the delivery of our Experience Insights project by the end of next year where we are required to onboard several new BUs. The role is currently planned as temporary, one-year role, but there is a possibility this could be reviewed after 1 year.

 

Your role

As an Actuarial/Data Science Analyst your main accountabilities will include:

  • Working in collaboration with actuaries to understand products, data, and methodology
  • Working in collaboration with actuaries and data scientists (LPU & BUs) to develop R code for data preparation, ingestion and transformation
  • Validating the implementation against any existing analysis for the relevant products
  • Supporting LPU data scientists and Zurich’s Data & Business Insights (D&BI) team to align Azure tools with R code and to deploy new code into production
  • Support implementation of RMarkdown/Power BI reports to document the data outputs and results and to support BUs in creating local best estimate basis reports
  • Other ad-hoc tasks, such as reacting to business of the LPU in achieving the strategic goal of growing Protection business globally.  This may include building predictive models and supporting delivery change to the BU pricing models.

 

Your Skills and Experience

As an Actuarial/Data Science Analyst your skills and experience will ideally include:

 

  • Two or more years’ experience of working in an actuarial or data science team and experience working in data/analytics
  • Knowledge of insurance products, pricing, and experience analysis, preferably in life insurance is desirable
  • Actuarial training is desirable through obtaining a level of qualification equivalent to CAA[1] (Certified Actuarial Analyst) or demonstrate that you have equivalent skills and training through work experience
  • University education (Master's degree) in financial mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, quantitative methods, computer science or similar
  • Strong R and data manipulation skills
  • Knowledge in Python, SQL and PowerBI a plus
  • English language - Upper intermediate (B2 or better), spoken and written
  • Strong communicator who can document and explain technical material to a high standard
  • Interest in data research, predictive modelling, statistical analysis, data transformation and developing insights for use in business decisions

We offer 

In accordance with the EU Pay Transparency Directive, the minimum gross monthly compensation for this position, determined based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, is 2 200EUR/gross. The final compensation package will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
