Our opportunity
Data Engineer Trainee
Join our GAM IT department and become part of the wider Group Asset Management (GAM) team at Zurich.
In this role, you’ll help support and build the tools and systems that our investment experts use every day – from applications that track portfolios and risks, to data pipelines and reports they rely on for decisions. As an intern, you’ll see how IT and finance work together, learn how we keep our systems secure and efficient, and contribute to real improvements that make life easier for our GAM colleagues.
Your role
As a Data Engineer Trainee, your main responsibilities will involve:
- Support the development of ETL processes for natural catastrophe analyses
- Help in migration to databricks
- Work on data format conversions between different vendor and internal formats
- Modernize legacy software
- Performance analysis and improvement of available solutions
- Improve testing framework (user & integration level)
- Support user testing
- Reviewing user requests and turning them into available functionality
- Interaction with stakeholders and designing solutions based on their input
- Write/improve/organize documentation (AI supported methods)
Your Skills and Experience
As a Data Engineer Trainee, your skills and experience will ideally include:
- Slovak university student, preferably in 2nd or 3rd year of study in Computer Science, Informatics, Software Engineering, AI, or other related field
- Familiar with Python, SQL, possibly R
- Strong analytical problem solver with critical thinking skills, creativity
- Curious and willing to learn new technologies
- Fluent English
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to develop both technical and interpersonal skills
Nice to have
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks ERL
Additional information
- Location(s): Bratislava (2-3 times / week in the office)
- Schedule: part-time
- Wage: 8 EUR/hour gross
