Zurich Canada is currently seeking Underwriting Associates to participate in the winter cohort of our Zurich Excellence Program – Underwriting Associate Stream. This two-year onboarding program is crafted to offer mentorship, hands-on training, and professional development specifically within the field of commercial insurance. As an Underwriting Associate in this program, you will benefit from structured support and learning opportunities that are designed to help you build your expertise and grow your career within the insurance industry. 

 

Reporting to the Underwriting Services & Operations Manager you will join a cohort of new Underwriting Associates, supporting Underwriters with an assigned book of business while building essential technical and professional skills. Throughout the program, you’ll gain valuable experience that can ultimately lead to multiple career paths at Zurich Canada – including continuing as an Underwriting Associate, exploring further underwriting development or pursuing opportunities in other areas of the organization.

What you will do

 

  • Review, evaluate and summarize risk exposures, controls, loss history, and financial condition to aid underwriting decisions around submission acceptance or declination. 
  • Follow instructions from Underwriters in areas of policy rating, subjective pricing, policy construction, coverages & exclusions, mandatory forms, etc. to accurately quote and issue policies (bonds). 
  • Provide account servicing support in collaboration with Underwriter and Manager, with responsibility for end-to-end servicing processes for new business, renewals, and endorsements for basic to moderately complex business and products. 
  • Support Underwriter with broker/agent/distributor/customer interactions by providing basic customer service skills. Respond to written, verbal, and telephone inquiries appropriately and on time under close supervision by Underwriter and/or Manager. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

 

Required:

 

  • Bachelors degree or College diploma and no prior experience in the Administrative, Customer Service, Financial Services, Risk Management or Insurance area 

 

OR

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Administrative, Customer Service, Financial Services, Risk Management or Insurance area

 

AND

 

  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis
  • Microsoft Office experience

 

 

Preferred:

 

  • 1 or more years of experience in insurance, financial services, customer service, risk management, or related fields 

 

AND

 

  • Aspiration to attain the Chartered Insurance Professional designation 

 

AND

 

  • A genuine interest in launching or advancing a career in the insurance industry—prior insurance experience is an asset but not required 
  • Strong analytical thinking and a curious mindset 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a structured training environment 
  • A team-oriented attitude with a passion for delivering great service

 

In addition, please note:

 

  • This is a hybrid work opportunity with in-office presence required (3 days a week)
  • The salary range for this role is $60,000–$65,000. 
  • The start date for this position will be in late February/early March 2026. 
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
