Property Underwriting Manager (Associate Level I or AVP, Level II)

Zurich is looking to hire a Property Underwriting Manager (Associate Level I or AVP, Level II) to lead the Large Property production underwriting team in Chicago! In this role you will drive strategy, cultivate relationships with key brokers and provide coaching and development to a team of market facing Underwriters. The team is focused on complex Large Property underwriting and as the manager you will to aid in making appropriate underwriting decisions. While this position will be based out of our Chicago office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

 

This role will be filled at either the Associate Underwriting Manager (Level I) or AVP, Underwriting Manager (Level II) The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position

 

Basic Qualifications (Level I: Associate Property Underwriting Manager): 

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • 25% Travel

 

Preferred Qualifications (Level I Associate Property Underwriting Manager): 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Advanced knowledge of line/s of business
  • Ability to manage and build rapport with team
  • Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience
  • Broker relationships in the Great Lakes region
  • Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
  • Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation

 

OR

 

Basic Qualifications (Level II: AVP, Property Underwriting Manager): 

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industry
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industry
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industry
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area within the Commercial Insurance industry
    AND
  • 2 or more years of staff management or portfolio management with leadership experience (formal or informal)
  • 25% Travel

 

Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels):

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Manager/Leadership experience
  • Strong underwriting acumen and expertise in Large Property commercial accounts
  • Broker relationships in the Midwest AND/OR Great Lakes region
  • CPCU
  • Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent skills in relationship building
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Results oriented

 

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $172,000.00 - $269,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Associate Level I is $172,000.00- $222,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%. For the AVP is $209,000.00- $269,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 25%.
