Do you have Underwriting and Delegated Authority experience? Are you looking for a new challenge? If so, we would love to hear from you! We have an exciting opportunity to join our experienced and successful Underwriting Team within the Delegated Authority Centre of Excellence, based in Croydon.

This is a market facing role so it’s really important that you have excellent communication skills and have a built in passion for doing the right thing for our customers. 

We’ll support and train you in all the technical aspects of the role and will make sure that you feel part of the team from day one!


This role is available part-time, job-share or full time, this is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.  If this is you, please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.  


So what will you be doing? 

As a Delegated Authority Underwriter, you will be assigned as Underwriting Lead on DA arrangement(s) and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities for your account, this will include:

  • Make sound and skilful underwriting decisions across a variety of lines of businesses (Property & Casualty, Construction, Real Estate & Excess of Loss) within agreed authority limits and in line with underwriting guide.
  • Managing the life cycle of your DAA (from undertaking quarterly broker review meetings to annual review and contract renewal) supported by the Relationship Lead.
  • Acting as point of contact for your DA broker on behalf of Underwriting.
  • Collate and understand Conduct Management Information for your specific DA arrangement(s) and identify any trends or potential customer detriment.


We need you to provide a standout service experience for customers and stakeholders and be responsible for delivering quality and timely solutions for them. This means taking ownership of own workload and supporting colleagues to deliver our collective workload -it’s all about being a team player!


So what are we looking for? 

We are looking for someone with Underwriting knowledge and experience. Delegated Authority experience would be advantageous but not essential as we will provide full on the job training.

This is a market facing role so it’s really important that you have excellent communication skills and have a built-in passion for doing the right thing for our customers. You will also have the opportunity to build your internal network and gain exposure to other supporting functions such as Legal, Customer Office, Finance, Compliance, Actuarial etc so we would like someone who would feel confident in this environment.

We’d like you to be happy to challenge processes and decisions using your attention to detail. You’ll naturally adapt your style to different workloads and pressures and be able to think on your feet. Finally, organisation and the ability to prioritise is really key, the customer is always foremost on our minds!
