Location:  Home-Based: Cumbria, Northumberlans or Scotland - or be prepared to relocate to area

The opportunity

 

Zurich Engineering have a vacancy for a new role to support our Technical Services department. The role of Specialist Engineer (Lift Crane) is primarily home-based and will provide you with an opportunity to further develop yourself and helps shape the future of Technical Services provision.

 

This role would suit an existing Lift Crane Engineer Surveyor or an experienced engineer who prides them themselves on being organised with effective time management skills who has a working knowledge of the primary and secondary legislation associated with the role and the typical equipment that falls within scope of the discipline.

What will you be doing?

 

Following a training period with an allocated mentor, the successful candidate will be:

 

  • Providing technical support to our field-based Engineer Surveyors within the discipline
  • Supporting the delivery of a technical governance programme associated with the discipline
  • Supporting our clients with technical queries and be able to build relationships
  • Supporting the delivery of additional fee earning income stream where appropriate
  • Providing input to the departmental strategy where required to support the wider business strategy
  • Creating and updating technical procedures, processes and technical libraries.
  • Conducting and updating risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Progressing and managing technical projects associated with new and emerging technologies and practice and where applicable overseeing repairs and modifications.
  • Contributing to changes which improve Zurich’s business proposition whilst managing risk.
  • Conducting technical investigations.
  • Coaching and mentoring of trainee Engineer Surveyors.
  • Supporting the technical development of Engineers through the creation and delivery of training material.

 

 

What are we looking for?

 

An Engineer who:

 

  • Is qualified with a minimum of a HNC (level 4) in a relevant engineering field, although degree is preferred.
  • Has at least 5 years’ experience within a relevant engineering field and at least 1 of which that is directly related to the engineering in-service inspection industry.
  • Is registered with the Engineering Council to at least Eng Tech with an aspiration to attain IEng (there is an expectation to achieve IEng within a defined timescale).
  • Can provide two years of related CPD (minimum of 30 hours/year).
  • Has a sound understanding of the design, construction and operation of equipment, plant and standards associated with the discipline.
  • Has a working knowledge of the legislation and regulations associated with the discipline.
  • Has an appreciation of the requirements of BS ISO 17020.
  • Can work remotely and within a team environment effectively.
  • Is organised and able to prioritise and manage their work.
  • Has a desire to develop their technical knowledge and understanding of equipment associated with the discipline.
  • Has a full valid UK driving licence and can travel to carry out their duties.
  • Can communicate technical and non-technical matters effectively to internal and external stakeholders by various means, including technical documentation and presentations.
