AVP, Construction Casualty Underwriter


Zurich North America is seeking an experienced AVP, Construction Casualty Underwriter to join our growing National Accounts team in New York. We are also open to hiring talent for our office in Boston. This is a market facing position and requires approximately 25% travel.

As a Construction Casualty Underwriter at Zurich, you will focus on our customer’s experience by understanding their risks and offering the best end to end solutions for their insurance needs. You will be an innovative advisor handling complex new and renewal Construction Casualty business with a focus on establishing and cultivating relationships with Brokers. This position will be within the environmental contractor/consultant portfolio of Zurich Construction. You will be underwriting primary casualty, excess, and contractor’s pollution/professional liability.

Our Construction Casualty Underwriter is responsible for:

  • Marketing Zurich's Construction products and services
  • Managing a portfolio of Construction Casualty business by managing the selection/denial of new and/or renewal business
  • Using risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale
  • Identifying gaps involves and aligning Zurich’s products and value proposition to offer a solution that provides the contract certainty the customer needs
  • Developing solutions to achieve Zurich’s underwriting strategy, while addressing customer needs
  • Representing Zurich at external company functions, industry conferences, and marketing meetings
  • Working closely with other Zurich teams including risk management, operations, and finance

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Experience with Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • Technical knowledge of commercial Construction Casualty Underwriting including Builder’s Risk
  • Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in Southern Region
  • Sales execution mindset
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
