Cloud Engineer (FinOps) - Cloud Business Office

Zurich Dublin Technology Center is looking for a Cloud Engineer to join the team.

Your Role


The role of Cloud Engineer operates within the Cloud Business Office (CBO) team in our Cloud Centre of Excellence. This role has a particular emphasis on Finance Operations (FinOps) in the public cloud. The Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) is a cross-functional team responsible for developing and managing the cloud strategy, governance, and best practices that the rest of the organization can leverage to transform the business using the cloud. 
The CBO ensures the effective governance for the organization to adopt and accelerate Public Cloud use across the business. It does this through the holistic representation of key stakeholders from across the business who form a quorum, who commit to be broadly educated on key Cloud differentiators across security, reliability, availability, cost, and time to market. It will establish and agree bold objectives and principles to the same, and act positively to encourage the enablement of the workforce to adopt Cloud at scale and address and remediate any risks or blockers that arise in its course.
The CBO is recognised as the conduit for customers of the Cloud Control Plane to accelerate cloud adoption across the business and managing the roadmap for cloud migrations. The CBO product portfolio spans Front Door services, Risk & Compliance, Education and FinOps.


As part of the CBO product portfolio to internal customers and partners and also suppliers, you will :

Perform FinOps analytics using products such as cloud native tools (AWS, Azure), and Pyracloud from Software One, typically involving cloud spend, cost optimisation, budget management
Deliver Zurich FinOps processes and outcomes and engage with cloud stakeholders as needed (for example – Savings Plans and Reserved Instances)
Define/develop FinOps metrics and reporting capabilities to demonstrate how cloud services align with the business objectives
Contribute to the development of an iterative cloud road map to plan for ongoing changes to services\platforms as technologies emerge and new features are requested by users
Provide expertise on FinOps practices and cost management in the public cloud
Represent the best interests of Zurich CCoE when dealing with suppliers and internal partners
Educate Zurich internal cloud consumers in understanding FinOps practices throughout cloud adoption and BAU operations
Ability to work successfully off own initiative
Be accountable, own issues, and take on challenges on behalf of CCoE & CBO
Work across the Cloud Team with functional leads to ensure there is good communication between teams, and work is coordinated and visible
Be familiar with CCoE Services and processes
Be familiar with Zurich financial process and reporting timelines


Your Skills and Experience


As a Cloud Engineer (FinOps) your skills and qualifications will include:


o    2+years’ experience delivering AWS or Azure public cloud services in a large-scale enterprise environment
o    Proficiency in AWS or Azure cost management, usage and billing services with relevant associated certifications 
o    Relevant degree or diploma programme of study
o    Project, program or service delivery management experience in virtual/cloud infrastructures
o    Proven experience of working within supplier-led service delivery models
o    Proven ability to succeed in collaborative work environments using Agile methodologies

o    5+years’ experience delivering AWS or Azure public cloud services in a large-scale enterprise environment
o    Expert level knowledge of Azure or AWS cost management services with associated certifications
o    PowerBI, Service Now, or JIRA platform skills would be beneficial
o    Experience with one or more Infrastructure as Code Languages: Terraform or CloudFormation

Additional Information


Primary work location is Blackrock, Dublin. Position is Dublin-based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
