Financial Accountant


Zurich Insurance PLC is looking for a Financial Accountant to join the Zurich Insurance Plc (ZIP) Head Office Finance team.
This team is
responsible for the Finance Operations of the ZIP including Legal Entity Statutory and Regulatory (Solvency II) Reporting of ZIP, Solvency II standard formula, Finance operational risk management including controls and operational risk assessment, cost controlling/allocations, tax compliance, and the implementation of finance projects.  

This is a unique Dublin based opportunity to join the head office financial reporting team of a large European multi-national insurer. The role offers an excellent development opportunity for a recently qualified accountant looking to join an interactive team and gain a breadth of experience in IFRS, Irish GAAP and Solvency II reporting across a wide range of European markets. 

Your Role


As a Financial Accountant your main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
•    Play an active role in all aspects of expense management for ZIP HO to include monthly actual expense reporting, budgeting/planning, forecasting, agreeing accruals, liaising with Group and ZIP HO cost centre owners, managing recharges.
•    Responsible for ZIP HO expense processes and engagement with third party service providers.
•    Play an active role in successful quarterly ZIP HO IFRS reporting to Group. 
•    Maintaining relationships with Regional Finance Centre in Krakow.
•    Supporting the production of the ZIP standard formula calculation. 
•    Responsible for review and production of assigned annual QRTs.
•    Play an active role in the completion of quarterly ICFR controls for ZIP HO. 
•    Supporting Group internal audit team with the DET and OET (testing) for ZIP HO.
•    Liaising with ZIP HO tax teams, as required (Transfer pricing reports, corporation tax reviews etc).

•    Participate in other ad hoc Finance projects as required which may include UAT system testing.
•    Ensure strong financial control environment is in place. Review existing processes and procedures and introduce improvements where appropriate.
•    Supporting auditors’ information requests on an ad-hoc basis.






Business Accountabilities

  • Independently collate and analyse Accounting data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats and make recommendations in order to support ZIP decision making process.
  • Assess and evaluate Accounting and Reporting processes in order to identify opportunities for improvement.

Your Skills and Experience


As a Financial Accountant your skills and qualifications will include:
•    Qualified accountant with at least 2-3 years PQE.
•    Insurance industry and Solvency II exposure.
•    Understanding of Irish GAAP and IFRS for Insurers.
•    Experience in SAP reporting tools (Business Explorer, Analysis for Office).
•    Intermediate to advanced Microsoft excel skills.
•    Strong analytical skills.
•    Team player - support colleagues to deliver on key objectives for ZIP.
•    Positive outlook and flexibility to handle change, including need for exceptional effort as required.
•    Strong communication skills, written and verbal, when interacting with ZIP HO team but also with ZIP Branch contacts.
•    Ability to build strong working relations, including with ZIP Branches.
•    Customer centricity, Dedication to excellence, Integrity, Sustainable value creation.
•    Intermediate level of problem-solving skills.
•    Ensure strong financial control environment is in place.

Additional Information


Primary work location is IFSC, Dublin 1.  Position is Dublin-based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
