Senior Personal Property Product Underwriter


Zurich Insurance Plc is looking for a Senior Personal Property Product Underwriter to influence the development and implementation of strategies and business solutions.


This includes pricing, propositions, underwriting tools and processes for the Personal Property portfolio. Supporting this will be the completion of appropriate business analysis and developing insight into each area.

Job Accountabilities


Your Role


As a Senior Personal Property Product Underwriter your main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

•Contribute to the development of business plans and pricing strategies and alignment of these with overall GI and Global Strategy
•Working with the Head of Personal Property to ensure the successful delivery of the underwriting initiatives set out in the business plan
•Support key aspects of portfolio management, including analysis to monitor profitability and recommend aspects requiring change
•Proactively contribute to the development of new and/or enhanced propositions based on technical, customer and distributor insights, including leading the design and delivery of policy wordings, acceptance criteria, underwriting processes and market pricing for such propositions
•Identification of opportunities for profitable growth and an understanding of market trends and developments impacting the business plan
•Providing valued insight and proposals for improved portfolio performance, including tactical actions to address emerging risks and challenges in an appropriate and timely manner
•Provides technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Distribution, Business Units, Proposition Development and Market Facing Underwriters in support of the achievement of the business plan
•Handles a range of queries and referrals within agreed authority limits, provides approval of terms and conditions and advice to assist with the development of the account and underwriting standards through the development and delivery of technical training programs and the support of mentoring activities within the Market Facing Underwriting teams
•Contribute to development of technical underwriting standards, controls, practices and procedures
•Control, Maintenance and Issuance of Underwriting Guidelines and supporting internal and external communication
•Efficient handling of complaints




Internal Relationships
•Reporting to the Head of Personal Property
•Strong collaboration required with Personal Lines Underwriting Operations Manager
•Key stakeholder relationships with Sales & Distribution, Business Change and Claims


External Relationships
•Liaison with customers, distributors and business partners
•Represent Zurich at Trade & Industry/Government bodies

Job Qualifications

Your Skills and Experience


As a Senior Personal Property Product Underwriter your skills and qualifications will include:



•Relevant professional designation – MDI, ACII, FCII, Chartered Insurer
•7+ Years of experience in General Insurance
•A minimum of 2 Grade C3/H5 at Higher Level in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) or FETAC Level 6 Diploma or, extensive experience relevant to the position.
•Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and market cycle
•Demonstrates deep technical knowledge and skills reflective of a subject matter expert within underwriting
•In-depth technical underwriting, governance and compliance knowledge


•Strong understanding of the personal property insurance markets
•Experience in proposition development
•Ability to work at pace and manage conflicting priorities
•Act with integrity, confidence & accountability
•Lead and manage change with the customer in mind
•Develop and coach the best in others
•Strong communication & collaboration skills

Primary work location is Dublin or Wexford. Occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
