Working hours: This role is available on a part-time, job-share or full-time basis.
Location: Fareham/UK hybrid – working from the office 1-2 days a week.

The opportunity:
To step into a leadership role overseeing the indirect tax compliance & reporting for Zurich entities in the UK and Isle of Man, with responsibility for delivering robust VAT processes, managing risk, and shaping the tax function in a complex, highly regulated environment.
To be part of an established and well respect in-house tax team, gaining experience of a wide variety of tax considerations.
This is a key role, requiring strong tax knowledge and people management skills to manage the delivery of indirect tax compliance by the team, and brings exposure to key stakeholders across the business.

What will you be doing?
- Manage a team of four experienced tax professionals
- Oversee preparation, review and submission of UK VAT returns for Zurich in the UK and Isle of Man
- Ensure correct application of partial exemption and input tax recovery methods
- Manage VAT registration/de registration, group VAT issues and option to tax matters where relevant
- Oversee preparation, calculation and filing of UK IPT returns
- Oversee calculation and filing of Foreign Premium Tax returns
- Reconciliation of control accounts to source systems
- Work closely with UK & Isle of Man Finance teams to ensure the impact of indirect taxes is factored into financial reporting & decision making
- Maintain a strong relationship with HMRC managing queries, reviews and audits and contributing to the BRR+ process
- Provide indirect tax support & input into the SAO and Uncertain Tax Treatment reporting processes
- Develop governance processes and ensure process documentation is maintained and updated
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the VAT compliance and reporting cycle
- Engage with a range of stakeholders across the UK and Isle of Man business, and also third-party suppliers, to ensure the timely and accurate supply of information required for compliance processes
What are we looking for?
- Significant UK VAT compliance experience with a strong understanding of partial exemption special methods, the interaction of VAT grouping and branches, and cross-border VAT considerations
- An understanding of VAT considerations around single/multiple supplies and property transactions
- Experience of Insurance Premium Tax compliance desirable
- Experience of leading or supervising a team
- Ability to build relationships and partner with a variety of stakeholders such as other Finance teams, market facing units, external advisors and HMRC
- Strong communication skills, in particular the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax stakeholders
- Experience in financial services and/or insurance (both P&C and life) preferable
- 5 years ACA/ACCA/CTA post-qualification experience
