Underwriter - SME


Job Summary

This entry level professional position is responsible for various duties within a section of the home office underwriting function of a business unit or the equivalent, providing support to segment specialists who develop the overall strategy and manage the profit and loss of books of business, through leadership of initiatives and overall execution.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree and 1 or more years of experience in Fire/Personal Lines/Property Underwriting

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting area

• Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities

• Provides limited and basic consultation and support to field underwriters.
• Administers and monitors underwriting rules and guidelines.
• Position may be responsible for certain aspects of product development and enhancement.
• Position may participate on projects.
• Participates in analyses relating to line of business profitability.
• Participates in Technical Reviews.
• Assists with account financial analysis.

• Demonstrate the ability to handle varied assignments.

Business Accountabilities

• Review and analyze project performance using standard reporting tools and highlight discrepancies against plan.
• Identify and comply with the main principles relevant to legal and regulatory controls that govern standard work practices.
• Collect data from well- established sources and analysis, recommendations and commentary to facilitate underwriting decision-making.
• Monitor underwriting business processes in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Review and analyze customer service levels using standard reporting tools and highlight discrepancies to more senior colleagues.
• Provide detailed procedural advice to internal clients to ensure that internal standards are adhered to.
