Junior Marine Underwriter

Working hours: This role is available on a part-time, job-share or full-time basis.

We’re focused on growing our Marine Cargo book of business and are looking for a Junior Underwriter to join us on this journey! In this role, you’ll help the team with policy administration and get exposure to the London Cargo market.

This is a great chance to join our Commercial Insurance Marine team, based in Mark Lane, London. It’s best if you’re in London, but we can consider other UK locations. You’ll need to travel to our London office regularly, spending time at the box in Lloyd’s.

What will you be doing?

As a Junior Underwriter, your main responsibilities will be:

• Supporting and improving general underwriting operations to boost productivity.
• Providing regular updates for management reports and maintaining agreed input.
• Processing policies, endorsements, and collaborating with underwriting support teams.
• Handling standard cover queries and enquiries promptly.
• Resolving enquiries from brokers, customers, and colleagues in a positive manner.
• Assisting with referrals from the online centre of excellence.
• Meeting targets to uphold productivity, quality, and service standards.
• Ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely production of quality documentation as per guidelines.
• Supporting co-workers in maintaining customer relationships.
• Following up on new business and renewals actively.

What are we looking for?

• Experience within General Insurance, ideally with exposure to underwriting principles.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written, verbal, and numerical – with the ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and brokers.
• Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise and manage workloads effectively to meet deadlines.
• Proactive and solutions-focused, with a willingness to take initiative and suggest process improvements.
• Demonstrates alignment with corporate values and a commitment to high standards.
• Self-motivated, taking ownership of personal development and continuous learning.
