Zurich is seeking an experienced Senior Liability Trial Attorney to join our Staff Legal Office in Metairie, Louisiana. This role involves representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable insurance carrier. The successful candidate will manage and litigate General Liability cases, including automotive, trucking, premises, products and construction liability, all drawn from a diverse and challenging caseload.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a well-respected company, representing its insureds throughout all phases of litigation while being part of a high-performing legal team. The candidate should demonstrate strong case analysis abilities, effective settlement and trial skills, and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision. They will also consistently practice law in compliance with the highest ethical standards established by the Federal Courts and the Louisiana State Bar.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Conducting initial investigations
  • Providing legal analysis and advice
  • Evaluating damages
  • Preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents
  • Performing legal research
  • Conducting pre-trial discovery
  • Retaining medical and forensic experts
  • Participating in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
  • Actively handling hearings and trials
  • Managing post-trial activities as necessary

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Juris Doctor and 7 or more years of experience in the Litigation area.
    AND
  • Member of the Bar in good standing in jurisdiction(s) in which practice is located.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Efficient work habits, knowledge of billables and diary review with substantive and procedural legal knowledge.
  • Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients.
  • Recent first chair jury trial experience.
  • Recent experience in an insurance defense environment.
  • Understands the staff counsel function and role in overall business.
  • PC literate, preferably with experience working in a paperless environment and with a case management system.
  • Member of neighboring state bar a plus, but not required.
  • Worker’s Compensation experience a plus, but not required.

 

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $113,100.00 - $185,100.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
