Market Facing Underwriter I

Zurich North America is looking for an experienced Market Facing Underwriter I to join our Professional Liability and Cyber team! Our preference is to have this role work out of our New York City office, but we are also open to talent that is able to commute to our Atlanta or Dallas locations. While this position will be based out of our New York City, Atlanta or Dallas office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

 

As a member of Zurich's Underwriting team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills. Specifically, you will underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity ensuring a high-level service to customers.

 

This role will be responsible for utilizing marketing and analytical skills to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business for Professional Liability and Cyber products, specifically for our large accounts. This is a market facing position thus we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset and prior knowledge and experience with professional liability and cyber products.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules
  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition and works with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions
  • Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area.
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1 or more years’ experience in the underwriting area
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office skills

We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. 

The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $60,000.00 - $95,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
