Property Underwriter Director- Middle Markets


Zurich is currently hiring for a Property Director to support our Middle Markets team on the overall development and strategy of the Property book within Middle Markets. The Property Director will be tasked with managing the profit and loss through leadership of initiatives and overall execution to ensure underwriting objectives within business segment are achieved. In this role, you will be heavily internal facing to support the field underwriters with referral expertise while providing coaching and mentoring assistance. We are looking to hire with in the South region or East Region, virtual option may be available as well.


Property Director responsibilities include:


  • May review agency or broker books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans.
  • Identify the need for additional underwriting guidance and works to develop new guidelines or changes to existing guidelines.
  • Maintain strong internal relationships; may be responsible for visiting customers and brokers (less than 15%)
  • Perform, or oversee the development of, in-depth research and financial analysis to understand the drivers behind the performance of the property portfolio.
  • Develop and monitor complex underwriting initiatives.
  • Investigate, recommend, and lead product development efforts.
  • Significantly contribute to process improvement and innovation.
  • Provide training support from a technical underwriting standpoint to the field
  • Disseminate key updates related to their specific industry segment.
  • Address governance and regulatory issues.


Basic Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area 
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Ability to be an effective team player
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
