SVP, Large Property - RVP East Underwriting Leader

Zurich North America is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Vice President, Large Property - RVP to lead our East Region Property team. This leadership role will be based in our New York Office and will report directly to the EVP, Head of Property.

This is a critical leadership position responsible for shaping and driving the success of Zurich’s Property portfolio across the East Region. The successful candidate will combine deep technical underwriting expertise with strong people leadership and a market-facing mindset. You will play a key role in advancing our underwriting strategy, strengthening broker and client relationships, and developing top underwriting talent to deliver profitable growth.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and execute the regional Property underwriting strategy, aligning with Zurich’s broader business and financial objectives.
  • Establish key performance metrics, underwriting standards, and financial targets to optimize portfolio performance and profitability.
  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Underwriting Managers and Underwriters, with a strong focus on talent development, succession planning, and technical excellence.
  • Drive underwriting discipline through the development and oversight of policies, processes, and governance frameworks aligned with strategic goals.
  • Act as a senior market-facing leader, cultivating and deepening relationships with key brokers, agents, and clients across the region.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, service enhancements, and sustainable growth.
  • Participate in regional and national leadership forums, contributing specialty expertise to business planning, change initiatives, and strategic priorities.
  • Represent the East Region within global and regional underwriting communities, sharing best practices and contributing to proposition development.
  • Oversee underwriting authority, including direct involvement in underwriting and analyzing new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
  • Review agency books of business, loss performance, and growth trends; recommend and implement action plans to improve results.
  • Support Zurich’s sales culture by serving as a trusted advisor to distribution partners and customers.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting philosophy, regulatory requirements, and Zurich standards.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in underwriting, market-facing, brokerage, carrier, or risk management roles within the Commercial Insurance industry
    AND
  • 5+ years of leadership or people management experience
  • Commercial Property underwriting experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical expertise across Property lines of business
  • Experience with P&L ownership, portfolio management, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Established broker and distribution relationships within the East Region
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and C-suite stakeholders
  • Expertise in risk selection, portfolio complexity, loss trends, underwriting analytics, and ratemaking
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting philosophy, guidelines, and national and local filing/regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and organizational skills

Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. 


The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $220,200-$385,400 with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 35%. This role is also eligible to participate in the company’s long-term incentive program.
