As a Lead Engineer within our ZX initiative, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of AI-led insurance at Zurich. This is a greenfield opportunity to design and build agent-based solutions from the ground up, working on complex problems that directly impact customer outcomes and business performance. You’ll operate across the full lifecycle, from early experimentation through to production, delivering scalable and reliable AI-native systems.

 

You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and design teams to bring agentic systems to life. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll set technical direction, uplift engineering standards, and help define how we build, evaluate, and scale AI solutions in a modern, cloud-native environment.

 

You will also be responsible for the following:

 

  • Lead the end-to-end development of AI agents and agentic orchestration solutions in production environments
  • Drive engineering excellence through strong DevSecOps and AIOps practices, ensuring security, reliability, and resilience
  • Establish robust evaluation, monitoring, and observability frameworks to improve quality, accuracy, and performance
  • Build scalable, reusable components and contribute to shared frameworks, standards, and internal documentation
  • Optimise developer productivity through AI-powered engineering tools and automation across the delivery lifecycle
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve real customer and business problems using AI-native approaches

You are a hands-on technical leader who thrives in ambiguity and brings structure to complex problems. You collaborate openly, challenge thinking constructively, and take ownership of outcomes while supporting others to do their best work.

In order to be successful, you will have the following:

  • Extensive experience in software engineering, machine learning, or data science within cloud-native environments
  • Strong programming capability across languages such as Python and TypeScript, with experience using modern AI frameworks
  • Proven experience building AI agents, RAG pipelines, or agentic systems using LLM-based development frameworks
  • Deep understanding of AI evaluation, observability, and optimisation techniques to improve model performance and reliability
  • Experience with AWS services and infrastructure as code tools to design and manage scalable cloud solutions
  • Strong knowledge of DevSecOps, data engineering concepts, and working in Agile, product-led delivery environments
