As a Senior Lawyer reporting to the Head of Legal – Corporate, you’ll provide expert legal, regulatory, and governance support to Zurich’s businesses across Australia and New Zealand. Your advice will help our teams achieve strategic goals, protect assets, and manage legal and reputational risks. You’ll play a key role leading the delivery of legal support for major corporate projects supporting Zurich’s life insurance, general insurance, and investment businesses, and guiding compliance and governance frameworks.

 

The role involves drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and delivering clear, solution-focused legal advice on general commercial, financial services, privacy, intellectual property, competition, and dispute matters. You’ll communicate complex legal concepts in an accessible way, proactively identify and address risks, and influence stakeholders to implement best practices. By staying on top of legal developments and promoting ethical business conduct, you’ll help Zurich create a brighter future together.

 

Important to your success – let’s grow together

 

  • Recognised Australian legal qualifications and a current Practising Certificate to practice law in New South Wales.
  • Over 12 years’ post-qualification experience in general corporate and commercial law, gained in both law firm and in-house environments.
  • Extensive expertise in advising on, drafting, and leading negotiations on complex commercial agreements for mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, procurement, outsourcing, distribution, and information technology transactions.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Corporations Act and the financial services regulatory landscape.
  • Proven experience supporting insurance or other financial services organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead legal support for a wide range of matters, including high-impact and complex corporate projects.
  • Strong background in information technology, intellectual property, and privacy matters.
  • Excellent communication skills—you’re able to persuade, influence, and build rapport, while clearly sharing specialist knowledge to help others grow.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities to support sound recommendations and manage escalations effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to build trust and maintain positive relationships at all levels, while demonstrating professionalism and customer focus.
