Staff Legal Administrative Manager


Zurich is currently looking for an Staff Legal Administrative Manager.


This position may work out of one of the following North American offices:  Overland Park, KS, who coordinates and directs the work activities of the unit/administrative services and has responsibility for performance, development and coaching of staff to ensure unit objectives are achieved.


Job Accountability:


  • Directs the management of a team of legal administrators and secretaries for multiple geographic areas.
  • Drives compliance with Operations Best Practices and/or other complex administrative procedures across areas of responsibility, insuring compliance with internal business controls.
  • Executes self-audit programs and implements action plans to improve administrative performance as required.
  • Identifies and implements process improvement ideas to create operational efficiencies
  • Completes performance management cycles, including providing coaching and feedback; Accountable for performance standards and development of administrative team members
  • Manages to approved staffing models and maintains appropriate spans of support by focusing on maximizing efficient use of resources.
  • Manages and monitors expenses in accordance with approved budgets.
  • Supports the organization to improve customer satisfaction via responsiveness, consistent experiences and improved processes
  • Effectively collaborates with business partners across the organization by increasing visibility and while working to understand and meet the expectations of all groups supported.
  • Works to identify opportunities and risks associated with changes in the external environment.
  • Acts as a technical resource for the team.
  • Provides mentorship and training to peers.


Job Function:

  • May participate in customer marketing efforts.
  • Utilizing management tools to assess, evaluate and improve existing workflows, processes, procedures, systems and data quality to enhance team outcomes.
  • Builds rapport and maintains effective relationships with all business partners to improve internal and external customer satisfaction and to achieve business objectives.
  • Executes and effectively monitors activities that support compliance with all internal and audit controls and best practices
  • Implements and supports talent management practices to improve performance by participating in goal setting, measuring, and monitoring performance, providing feedback and mentoring.
  • Acts as a technical resource for the team.


Business Accountability:

  • Contribute to budgetary planning and provide reports and commentary to support the management and control of project budgets and to optimize business performance.
  • Manage a small internal project team to ensure appropriate use of materials, tools, equipment or resources and adherence to schedules.
  • Evaluate and quantify project risks using established methods to ensure that the business is not exposed to any undue risk.
  • Track key project metrics, issues and risks and produce monthly statement reports based upon these to improve business performance in the short term.
  • Implement policy by following business processes, rules and guidelines to ensure adherence to the appropriate statutory and legal principles, and codes of conduct and industry guidelines.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal customers to ensure appropriate quality and service provision.
  • Allocate work and coordinate delivery of small local projects or sub projects to ensure that the overall project objectives are clearly defined and met and business benefits are delivered.


Job Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Leadership or Management or Supervisor or Training area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Leadership or Management or Supervisor or Training area


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization skill
  • Insurance defense legal experience
  • Strong data research and analysis skills
  • Training and presentation skills
  • Advance word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet/database skills
  • Organization and multi-tasking skills
  • People management skills
