AVP & Actuary, Workers Compensation Pricing
Zurich North America is currently looking for an AVP & Actuary, Workers Compensation Pricing to join our Workers Compensation Pricing team. Our preference is for the position to be based in our Schaumburg, IL office, with consideration for individuals who may be based out of another Zurich North America office location. Approximately 5% travel will be required for this position and will depend on location.
This role is a part of Zurich North America’s Technical Underwriting, Casualty Lines Pricing Team and will support our Workers’ Compensation line of business.
The Technical Underwriting, Workers Compensation Pricing team is responsible for delivering the WC product pricing which represents nearly three billion dollars of gross premium annually for Zurich North America. The Workers Compensation Pricing Team works closely with other Actuarial teams as well as Workers Compensation Product Management and Market Facing Underwriting teams to support achievement of Zurich’s financial objectives.
The AVP & Actuary, Workers Compensation Pricing will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the Workers Compensation Line of Business Pricing Team across numerous scheduled, business-as-usual, and ad-hoc projects
- Deliver pricing analysis support including the development of rates, rating plans, and portfolio management strategies
- Deliver analyses on several key pricing parameter updates including trend analysis, loss development factors, and expense assumptions.
- Work across actuarial, statistical, and IT functions to support current and future pricing tools across multiple platforms.
- Provide support for and acquire in-depth knowledge of pricing tools and related monitoring including working knowledge of underlying predictive models
- Where appropriate, support “Virtuous Circle” meetings across the organization
- Where appropriate, provide rate filing support including formal indications and evaluation of pricing levels
- Establish and maintain excellent communication and collaboration within as well as between teams.
Basic Qualifications:
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree
OR - Bachelors Degree
AND - 8 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification
OR - 13 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multiple functional areas including pricing, reserving, and capital management
- Prior Commercial Lines pricing experience with an emphasis on Workers’ Compensation
- Proficiency in pricing studies: rate indications, trend studies, parameter analysis
- Proficiency with Pricing Tools including development, deployment, and post-implementation monitoring
- Familiarity with Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics and experience transforming data in the business analysis area and providing explanation and inputs to IT
- Familiarity with statistical and predictive modeling techniques
- Experience with Databricks, Python, R, and/or SQL
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly possessing the ability to share technical results and recommendations to audiences at varying levels of analytic understanding
- Experience collaborating on cross-functional team projects
- Experience with mentoring colleagues or peers
- Experience with time-management around multiple workstreams.
Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The proposed salary range for this position is $149,500 to $244,900, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
