Associate Data Scientist


Zurich North America is looking for an Associate Data Scientist to join our growing Data & Analytics Team based out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.While this position will be based out of our Schaumburg Headquarters, we are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you, your customers, and the team.


This position will join a team that uses that uses a combination of analytics and advanced data science techniques (e.g., natural language processing, machine learning models, artificial intelligence techniques) to solve our business partners most pressing problems and help our customers better understand their risks.  This person will work within one of our cross functional Agile teams (Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists) that support various business units within the organization to achieve impact. 

In this role you will:

  • Develop & validate supervised & unsupervised learning models, create machine learning and AI models, and use other statistical techniques to solve business problems
  • Contribute to the development of a strategy on how to use the model/solution to generate impact
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their challenges and develop an analytical solution that creates business impact
  • Contribute to the effort for team to democratize data by consolidating, integrating, cleansing, and minimally curating operational production system data and external data for insight generation
  • Perform exploratory analysis which includes understanding the key statistical metrics on data columns, determining the granularity of the data, & assessing any related merge keys for combining the data
  • Develop a production, end to end solution for deployment, working closely with Data Engineers
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring framework to ensure the tool is performing as intended
  • Support stakeholders after deployment to ensure impact is achieved
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of best practices


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with experience in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics and 2 or more years of 
    experience in transforming data for use in the business analysis area
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics and 0 
    or more years experience in transforming data for use in the business analysis area
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics and 0 or more years experience in transforming data for 
    use in the business analysis area 
  • Experience applying data transformation techniques such as exact and probabilistic matching methods; fuzzy matching, 
    text mining and data reduction 
  • Knowledge of statistical and predictive modeling techniques, such as machine learning, decision trees, probability 
    networks association rules, clustering, regression, GLMs and neural and their application to business decisions networks


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics, or other relevant STEM degree
  • Strong statistical modeling and/or advanced machine learning experience
  • Experience with programming and data tools such as R, Python, & SQL
  • Knowledge of how to prepare data & develop insights
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to translate technical results for business audiences in a clear and concise manner
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with open ended business problems & develop an innovative solution proactively
