Chief Actuary, Zurich North America

Zurich North America (ZNA) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Actuary to lead the Zurich Actuarial Function across the U.S. This position reports to the Chief Group Actuary Officer and the US Chief Financial Officer. While our preference is for this position to be based in our Schaumburg, IL headquarters, we are open to considering other locations.

This highly influential role serves as a member of the US Executive Team, the Global Finance Actuarial Leadership Team, Council and the ZNA Finance Leadership Team, providing strategic oversight of reserving, analytics, and actuarial governance.

The Chief Actuary will lead ZNA’s Reserving (Business Unit and Line of Business), Data Visualization, and Statutory Reserving & Governance Actuarial teams. In addition, this leader will coordinate and elevate actuarial talent and capabilities across the broader ZNA actuarial community, with an emphasis on cross-functional insights, development, and best practices.


This role partners closely with business and functional executives to influence strategy, strengthen risk selection, enhance pricing sophistication, and advance portfolio performance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide executive leadership, direction, and oversight to the Actuarial Center of Excellence.
  • Deliver expert actuarial support across all legal entities and reporting units.
  • Ensure timely, accurate submission of actuarial deliverables to regulators, auditors, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Lead and enhance actuarial peer review processes.
  • Provide strategic insights to support financial planning, forecasting, and long-range strategy.
  • Present to Board Audit Committees and engage with rating agencies as a senior representative of ZNA.
  • Proactively communicate actuarial findings, trends, and insights to Business Unit leadership teams.
  • Drive operational excellence, productivity, and efficiency improvements across the Actuarial Center of Excellence.
  • Partner on resource planning to support business strategy and advance the actuarial function’s capabilities.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline and 15+ years of actuarial experience
    AND
  • Demonstrated experience leading large cross-functional teams
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or equivalent

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Chief Actuary
  • Broad actuarial expertise across reserving, pricing data, and analytics
  • Proven progression through senior actuarial roles with increasing responsibility
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable direction for the organization
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively across the C-suite
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex analyses and present clear, actionable recommendations
  • Experience collaborating across multi-functional teams
  • Track record of solving complex business challenges using data, research, and strategic insight
  • Deep understanding of the insurance business, regulatory environment, competitive landscape, market cycles, technology developments, and industry trends
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through innovation, vision, and creative problem‑solving

Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $300,00 - $443,100, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 50%. This role is also eligible to participate in the company’s long-term incentive program.
