Database Administrator (DBA)


Zurich is currently searching for a Database Administrator to join our Enterprise Data Management team supporting our multi-terabyte Data Warehouse. This position will be based out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.  


This position will be part of an Enterprise Data Management Team that will be responsible for leveraging the value of the data assets throughout the organization and will facilitate the development/implementation of the desired end-state data environment.  The Enterprise Data Management Team will also be responsible for improving the organization's decision-making capabilities by providing high quality, transparent data within the data applications as well as data warehouse and associated data marts.


The Database Administrator will build, monitor, maintain and operationally support our Yellowbrick data warehouse, in conjunction with other relational databases.  This role will work with data modelers, data engineers, application owners and infrastructure teams.


Responsibilities may include, but not necessarily limited to, the following:


  • Optimizes and tunes database systems, such as Yellowbrick, SQL Server, DB2 and Oracle.
  • Pro-actively monitors performance and capacity.
  • Performance tuning & query optimization.
  • Ensures adherence of storage, archiving, and back-up recovery procedures.
  • Backup recovery testing of recovery procedures and archiving databases.
  • Disaster recovery testing.
  • Database replication.
  • Troubleshoots database issues and performs database impact analysis for proposed changes.
  • Controls access permissions and privileges.
  • Alter tables and schema structure as required.
  • Works with the application development teams to develop stored procedures, triggers, and code to support enterprise applications, as well as to enforce coding standards.
  • Executes database release management processes and coordinates maintenance of development, testing and production environments.
  • Create physical database from the logical model, ensuring that all standards and guidelines are followed.


Basic Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area     


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Experience in administering multi-terabyte databases (PostgreSQL, Yellowbrick, DB2, SQL Server, Oracle)
  • Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, PL/pgSQL, UNIX Shell, PowerShell, PERL.
  • Experience in administering a multi-terabyte data warehouse is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple business and technical teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, tight deadline delivery timeline.
  • Aptitude to independently learn new technologies
