Financial Lines Technical Director

Zurich North America is currently seeking a Financial Lines Technical Director. This position reports to the Head of Financial Lines and will support the execution of the business strategy to drive profitable growth across our product lines. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical insurance expertise with strong operational leadership skills.  
 
Responsibilities include establishing underwriting priorities, working with businesses to ensure execution on business unit-wide strategic business and service plans, providing transactional support on new and existing portfolios, leading and contributing to profitability reviews, identifying opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment.

  
Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support development and execution of comprehensive business strategy to achieve revenue and profitability targets across Management Liability, Professional Liability, and Cyber products 
  • Work collaboratively with business leaders on new product development initiatives and market expansion opportunities 
  • Contribute to development of underwriting guidelines, risk appetite statements, and pricing models 
  • Provide technical leadership and support to underwriting teams on complex accounts and coverage issues 
  • Represent Financial Lines as part of broader ZNA Specialties Business Unit, reporting on KPIs, presenting emerging issues and trends, and detailing underwriter initiatives 
  • Collaborate with ZNA Claims and Actuarial team to regular complete loss driver analysis and incorporate findings into updated strategy 
  • Partner with Claims, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure effective product offerings and regulatory compliance 
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on thought leadership and brand positioning initiatives 
  • Contribute to Financial Lines success through continued development of relationships with key brokers, clients and industry partners 
  • Identify underwriting training needs and work with Product Officer/Specialist team to execute in a timely fashion 
  • Oversee Audit activities from the business perspective, working with underwriters and underwriting managers to respond to audit requests, provide clarity around business processes, and implement business changes in response to audit recommendations 

 

Team Leadership and Development: 

  • Lead Product Officer and Product Specialist team to ensure ZNA’s product offering is consistent, responsible, and market leading 
  • Serve as mentor and coach to developing talent across the broader Financial Lines organization 

 
Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Broker or Carrier or Market Facing or Risk Management experience within the Commercial Insurance industry  
    AND  
  • 2 years of management experience  
  • Financial Lines experience


Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Advanced and in-depth experience underwriting multiple financial lines products 
  • Strong portfolio management skills 
  • Experience working with actuaries, interpreting actuarial results including loss triangles and actual vs expected loss reserving information, etc. 
  • Strong Underwriting or Product Underwriting experience  
  • Experience building and implementing our key strategies  
  • Excellent team building, influencing and organizational skills  
  • Strong presentation skills  
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to interact with the C-Suite   
  • Ability to manage vision and purpose, lead the organization through innovative and creative thinking

here. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. 
 
The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $216,100–$378,300, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 35%.
