Lead Application Developer

Zurich is currently looking for a Lead Application Developer to work out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.

 

This position will be part of an Enterprise Data Management Team that will be responsible for leveraging the value of the data assets throughout the organization and will facilitate the development/implementation of the desired end-state data environment.  The Enterprise Data Management Team will also be responsible for improving the organization's decision-making capabilities by providing high quality, transparent data within the data applications as well as data warehouse and associated data marts.

 

The Lead Application Developer will be responsible for assisting in the creation and maintenance of our operating procedures and best practices and will participate as a technical expert in software design, coding, testing, and debugging with new or existing applications.  The Developer will also act as a liaison between the Business and other developers to understand the business need and will provide technical advice and guidance with a focus on various platforms and services.  The role will have a balance of business analysis and testing and will serve in requirements gathering.  The individual should also be able to work well with co-located and distributed team members, including vendor resources.

 

In this role, she/he will participate on core teams identifying and validating data and use case scenarios within the Enterprise. The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to develop actionable plans, recognize opportunities and be able to report out on on-going progress. This role will require technical documentation abilities and team coordination skills.

 

Other responsibilities may include:

 

  • Lead analysis of business requirements
  • Coordinate and lead activities with business owners to gather requirements
  • Support development, testing, implementation and training activities
  • Understand and apply delivery approaches (i.e. Agile methodology, Scrum) and perform, independently, business analysis processes in accordance with Zurich Project management framework and the Zurich risk policy
  • Provide subject matter expertise to others in the organization

 

Client Internally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on delivering service to internal clients, usually at the line manager or employee level. May involve sharing subject matter expertise to others in the organization or supporting others in their efforts to deliver on our promise.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Software Programming Applications area using JAVA-J2EE and .NET
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Software Programming Applications area using JAVA-J2EE and .NET
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Software Programming Applications area using JAVA-J2EE and .NET
    AND
  • Experience in design, development, testing, debugging and documentation of Java and .NET based application programs
  • Experience in maintenance of the multiple application programs
  • Experience working with multiple phases of software systems programming applications
  • Experience working with multiple programming languages (especially JAVA/Angular, .NET experience)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Understanding of Insurance industry business processes, processing and IT infrastructure
  • Experience working with data driven applications preferred
  • Experience with data query tools to perform data analysis and validation
  • Experience leading a group of developers and collaborating across teams
  • Ability to manage/support high availability environment
  • Experience with supporting external, customer facing applications
  • Experience managing and safeguarding with highly confidential data
  • IT Audit and Compliance knowledge preferred
  • Experience with Agile methodology preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
