Senior Actuarial Analyst II, Business Unit Reserving - Middle Market

Zurich North America is currently looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst II to join our Business Unit Reserving Team based out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.  We are also open to considering talent in New York City, Milwaukee and Madison. While this position will be based out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, New York City, Milwaukee and Madison we are offering the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely.   You will collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you, our customers and the team.

 

As a part of the BU Reserving team, you will partner with ZNA’s U.S. Middle Markets business, responsible for partnering with business unit leadership on reserving matters including syndicating quarterly results and identifying trends within the portfolio. The BU Reserving team leads the quarterly ZNA Reserve Committee, and this role will be instrumental in recommending and communicating quarterly reserve changes. Additionally, the BU Reserving Team collaborates with the LOB Reserving Team to complete quarterly reserve reviews as well as the monthly financial close.

 

In this role you will use your insurance knowledge, portfolio insight, and analytical skills to perform and influence analysis to support senior business leaders, finance, and actuarial colleagues across the organization. Your analysis will support an array of projects, including:

 

  • Collaborating with LOB Reserving to assist with quarterly reserving reviews
  • Implementation and communication of IFRS17 accounting standards
  • Supporting quarterly Pre-Close and Close Reserve Committee meetings
  • Delivering timely and accurate monthly financial close
  • Syndicating quarterly results to senior management
  • Collaborating with Actuarial Center of Excellence to align on Expected Loss Ratios, Country Underwriting Plan, Strategic Business Review and Financial Plan

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree
    OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    AND
  • 5 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification
    OR
  • 10 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification


Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and knowledge/skills reflective of a senior practitioner
  • Actuarial experience that includes a combination of reserving and pricing experience, diversified business lines that include commercial lines of business
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff effectively
  • Team Lead and/or mentoring experience
  • Project management skills
