As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a key role in transforming data into actionable insights, predictive models and AI-driven solutions that support strategic decision-making across Zurich.
Within the Zurich Customer Active Management (ZCAM) team, you will help unlock the value of customer, operational and financial data to improve business performance, enhance customer understanding and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
You will work on a broad portfolio of analytical initiatives, including customer intelligence, forecasting, machine learning applications and AI-driven business solutions. Typical use cases include KPI and financial forecasting, customer churn prediction, recommender systems, fraud detection and claims analytics.
By combining strong statistical and machine learning expertise with business understanding, you will help turn complex data into measurable business impact.
This role is based in Ljubljana (Slovenia) with a hybrid working model.
What you will do
- Develop and deploy statistical, machine learning and AI models to support strategic business objectives;
- Design and maintain forecasting solutions for key customer, operational and financial KPIs using time series and predictive modelling techniques;
- Build customer intelligence solutions, including customer segmentation, lifetime value estimation, retention and churn prediction;
- Apply machine learning techniques to fraud detection, claims analytics, risk assessment and related business use cases;
- Explore large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, risks and opportunities;
- Design and run experiments (for example A/B tests) to measure the impact of data-driven initiatives;
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to define use cases and communicate analytical findings in a clear and impactful way;
- Work alongside data engineering teams to ensure the availability of high-quality analytical datasets for modelling and analysis;
- Support deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement of machine learning models in production environments;
- Create clear visualizations and dashboards to support decision-making and storytelling with data;
- Contribute to the development of data science best practices, model governance standards and analytical methodologies at Zurich.
What you bring
- 6+ years of experience in data science, advanced analytics and machine learning;
- University degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline (equivalent experience acceptable);
- Strong foundation in statistical modelling, predictive analytics and machine learning techniques (for example regression, tree-based methods, clustering, classification);
- Practical experience with forecasting methods, particularly time series modelling;
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, as well as SQL;
- Understanding of the machine learning lifecycle, including data preparation, validation, monitoring and performance evaluation;
- Experience working with large, complex datasets and data pipelines in a production or enterprise environment;
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to non-technical audiences;
- Strong curiosity, business acumen and willingness to challenge assumptions through data-driven insights;
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, agile teams and manage multiple initiatives in parallel;
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Nice to have
- Exposure to large-scale data environments in cloud platforms, particularly Azure-based analytics ecosystems;
- Background in insurance, financial services or other customer-centric industries;
- Hands-on use of Databricks, Spark or similar distributed data processing frameworks;
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and model deployment frameworks for operationalizing machine learning solutions;
- Knowledge of responsible AI and model risk management practices (for example bias assessment, model documentation, explainability).
