Construction Risk Engineer

Zurich Resilience Solutions is seeking a Construction Risk Engineer. This role focuses on supporting our local customers, local partners, and our global customers from other regions with locations in Asia.

This role has flexible working arrangement options and will require regular travel to our Singapore office as well as travel to our client sites both in Singapore and internationally.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assess the complex risk quality both desktop and onsite as described in the appropriate standard(s) and related competency level. Assess loss potential for Construction Property Damage, Business Interruption Delays and Third-Party Liability exposures in accordance with agreed definitions.
  • Ensuring that all risk engineering is technically and commercially viable by providing first-class customer service, either directly or by sub-contracted consultants.
  • Support external customers by identifying and reducing the risks that they face individually, and on an overall account basis.
  • Provide appropriate risk improvement advice, conduct loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis), and implement risk improvement programs.
  • Share technical expertise with colleagues, business partners and customers through training delivery or participation in a Centre of Expertise or industry segment.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships and collaborate with both customers and business partners to develop appropriate service plans.
  • Act as expert resource to Zurich Underwriting, claims and the global risk engineering network on construction related areas.
  • To provide thought leadership and technical insight on risk features of field of expertise, including lessons from losses.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have minimum bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in civil and/or structural engineering.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction industry (soils, foundations, civils, heavy civils, and buildings, project management) including experience of working on site.
  • Having an existing knowledge of the insurance market would be beneficial, but not essential.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge with a variety of construction materials and methods and an excellent understanding of industry best practices, codes and standards.
  • Can combine ability to understand, converse and document in English.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to also speak and read / write in Mandarin is preferred.
  • Ability to assess loss potential from agreed definitions.
  • Strong communication and consultative skills.
  • Outstanding collaborative skills.
  • High degree of proficiency related to PC and Software or systems.
