The opportunity: 

We are looking for a qualified actuary (or candidate with equivalent expertise and will consider senior/experienced students) to join our life valuation reporting team. The role is to work on IFRS reporting and modelling with particular focus on the implementation, valuation and understanding of the new IFRS 17 process and results, and how these compare to existing reporting measures such as IFRS4 and Solvency II.

 

The valuation reporting team is responsible for the monitoring, reporting, forecasting and longer term business planning for Zurich’s UK Life business under a range of reporting measures, including SII, Swiss Solvency Test, IFRS and UK GAAP. The team provide insights into the strategy and performance of the company and works in close collaboration with other finance and business areas as well as the Global Corporate Centre.

 

We are looking for a self-driven individual, preferably with life assurance reporting and cash flow modelling experience, and IFRS17 knowledge/experience would be an advantage. This role would suit a candidate with good technical, analytical, communication and modelling skills. The candidate should have a strong appreciation of controls and governance, be capable of working independently within a small team and be enthusatic about working collaboratively with a range of actuarial, finance and busines areas.

 

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work within the valuation reporting team and with the IFRS17 project implementation team to implement the IFRS17 CSM processes and models into regular reporting.
  • Once IFRS17 is live, work collaboratively in the valuation reporting team to deliver the IFRS17 results, and all the associated analysis and reconciliations.This will include delivery of  monthly and quarterly results  (actuals and forecast) and the regular business plan.
  • Provide support in liaising with senior management and key stakeholders to explain the IFRS17 results and related insights.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement that focuses on developing processes and systems, and enhancing the service provided to all stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a strong controls and governance focus around all aspects of models, processes, reporting and alnalysis.
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships across relevant Finance and business areas.

 

 

Your skills and experience:

  • Fellow of IFoA  (or similar experience) with experience of working in an actuarial reporting team.
  • Commercially aware with experience of the life insurance industry, and regulatory environment.
  • Experience of reporting procedures, processes and operating controls for a robust delivery of reliable and accurate financial reporting to auditable standards.
  • Actuarial modelling experience including understanding of cash flow modelling, assumption setting, assessing data quality and analysis of movements.
  • Experience with change control and documentation for processes and models.
  • Confident communicator that is able to explain technical material to a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel. Prophet, VBA, SQL also an advantage
