Medical Underwriter (Part-Time, Job-Share and Full-Time)

 

Location: Flexible with occasional travel to our Swindon office 

 

 

 

The opportunity:

Zurich Corporate Risk is one of the fastest-growing group risk providers in the market started 10 years ago and since that time has continued to go from strength to strength.  To continue with its growth targets and aspirations ZCR is now looking for an Medical Underwriter to join their team on a permanent basis.

 

As the Medical Underwriter, you will be responsible for making sound and skilful group life and group income protection underwriting decisions for members of new and existing Corporate schemes.

 

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

 

What will you be doing?

 

You will be joining a team of Administrators, Underwriters and Senior Underwriters. You will also interact with brokers and intermediaries daily. Other activities include: 

 

  • To make medical underwriting decisions for group life and group income protection within agreed authority limits and in line with the Zurich underwriting philosophy.
  • Provide technical medical underwriting support and guidance to customers and distributors, consistently providing excellent customer service.
  • Keep up to date with medical underwriting philosophy considering experience and market conditions.
  • Use best practices to boost the effectiveness and efficiency of our processes.
  • Delivery against the key business, team and individual KPIs.
  • Liaise with Company Medical Officers and reassurance companies as and when needed.
  • Maintain external distributor relationships by consistently requesting the correct evidence, making the correct decision, and always explaining non-standard decisions.
  • Completes a range of queries and referrals within agreed authority limits, measuring the exposure and analysing the risk of each case to maintain underwriting standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement by monitoring underwriting business processes.
  • Ensure robust governance is maintained across the team, remaining compliant at all times.
  • Sharing best practices with other team members.
  • Provide a standout service experience for customers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to positive and supportive team culture.
  • Take responsibility for delivering quality and timely output to our customers through taking ownership of our own workload and supporting colleagues to deliver our team workload.

 

 

 

What are we looking for?

 

  • Medical underwriting experience in either the corporate or protection environment is desirable but not essential.
  • CII Diploma in Underwriting preferred but not essential.
  • Awareness of the corporate risk market in the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively assess risk, using excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to positive and supportive team culture.
  • Able to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Passionate about customers and driving through Continuous Improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Challenge processes, priorities, strategies, resources, and business decisions to help deliver the best results.
