Regional Underwriting Officer, South Region
Zurich North America is currently looking for a Regional Underwriting Officer (RUO), for our South Region, U.S. Middle Market Business Unit. The RUO will report to the Regional Vice President (RVP) and be located in the South Region.
The Regional Underwriting Officer is responsible for driving underwriting performance through the oversight of portfolio quality and pricing, business mix, authority delegation, underwriting quality, compliance actions and training needs within the region. This leader is a key conduit to our USMM LOB Underwriting and Industry Practices (IP) teams.
Responsibilities include:
- Helping to ensure that our colleagues have a keen understanding of local issues, enabling us to refine our strategies as needed in our respective markets.
- Serving as change agents to ensure local adoption of new underwriting strategies, models and practices.
- Engaging with the IP or LOB teams on referrals and directly handling referrals where appropriate.
- Ensuring we are evaluating opportunities on a holistic, multi-line basis.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Risk Management or Underwriting or Broker or Carrier or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industry
OR - Only current employee’s level 7 and above may apply with a High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience.
AND - Middle Market experience

- Middle Market expertise
- Ability to manage complex portfolios
- Technical knowledge of insurance operations and functions
- Strategical component of assessing/anticipating market environment
- Ability to quantify risk and experience with forecasting methods
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Coaching and mentoring experience
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to interact with the C-Suite
- Knowledge in risk selection & assessment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply, as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The salary indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $175,000 - $280,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 25%.
