Internship - Climate Data Analyst 70-100% (6-12 months)

Your core responsibility in this role is to source and visualize data sets (hazard, exposures, controls) to support in the assessment of natural hazards and climate change risks. Your role in our Climate Change Resilience Services (CCRS) team is to support in the development, and deployment of state-of-the-art risk assessment methods and tools.

 

What you will do
 
As an Intern in the CCRS Team, you will be

 

•    Creating hazard maps for temperature change, precipitation change, drought/heat waves or excess of moisture, etc
•    Downloading and preprocessing climate model data
•    Developing an interface - web map, user interface / post processing data
•    Contributing to hazard maps which are in development 
 
What you bring
 
•    Ideally you will be close to finishing your Bachelor’s or already have begun your Master’s in Environmental Science, Geography, Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, or a related field
•    Used to working with large data sets
•    Basic to medium data processing and coding skills with R or a similar programming language (Python, Matlab, etc…)
•    Processing spatial data (familiar with data formats, GIS, visualization /cartography)
•    Basic to medium coding skills (R, Python, Matlab, etc.)
•    Basic modelling experience (developing, scrutinizing, understanding uncertainties and limitations)
•    Knowledge of Spatial statistics / general statistics
•    Some form of atmospheric science background (e.g. atmospheric physics, meteorology, climate change, physical geography, etc.)
•    Knowledge in machine learning / AI
•    Knowledge in remote sensing
•    Proficient knowledge of the English language, German a plus
