Group M&A is responsible for the execution of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestures on a global basis. The team manages the entire M&A process, which includes the idea generation and identification, project evaluation, due diligence and negotiating phase. We manage M&A projects in close collaboration with the business, the segments and Group functions. M&A projects are highly confidential and require the acceptance of a separate confidentiality agreement by each project team member.

In this role you will lead and manage Mergers & Acquisitions projects of high complexity and material scale from origination to execution and supervise resources throughout the life of major projects in ensuring Closing on the best achievable terms for Zurich.


What you will do

  • Build relationships and understand the strategic direction and intent of countries, regions, segments, businesses and Group to assess how M&A can enable this strategy.  Includes processes such as routine strategic target monitoring, modeling and analysis, structuring idea generation, capital recycling analysis and specific target analysis including the preparation of systematic documents to support, align and share this analysis.
  • Lead Mergers & Acquisitions transactions, including the evaluation of acquisition targets across all aspects of the value chain (e.g. manufacturing, distribution, etc.) and across corporate functions (e.g. finance, IT, tax, legal).
  • Leading and directing large and diverse cross-functional project teams in organizing work towards common goals including due diligence and integration plans, ensuring collaboration among regions and Business Units to facilitate transactions involving stand alone and composite targets.
  • Coordinating and managing external advisors, incl. investment banks, business consultants, financial advisers and legal counsel, actively engaging the required stakeholders within Zurich, leading and guiding the Mergers & Acquisitions staff.
  • Preparing presentations, coordinating the sign-off process and (jointly) presenting the projects to approval committees (e.g. Group Balance Sheet Committee and Local and Group Boards as applicable).
  • Negotiating with counter-parties and leading the communication with them, managing related processes (e.g. preparation of written documents (offer letters etc.) and their sign-offs).
  • Work location is Zürich. Travel is required and percentage of travel is dependent on projects but in certain circumstances could be more significant.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) and 8 or more years of experience in related field.
  • Proficiency and/or expert level in: project management, analytical thinking, business acumen and negotiating.
  • Proficiency and/or expert level in: Leading multi-dimensional, high-value Mergers & Acquisitions transactions in complex cross-functional environments.
  • Proficiency and/or expert level in: Building key relationships to enable regular communication at senior executive level within the business unit to partner the business and encourage collaboration between finance, the business and other functions.
  • Proficiency with tools and technologies required in a digital business environment, especially around automation.
  • Ability to address business problems with data visualization tools.
  • Fluency in English required (written and spoken).
