Senior DWH & DevOps DBA/Engineer (m/w/d) 80-100%


In the Data Management & Shared Services department, the Finance Data Management team supports the implementation of Zurich Switzerland's strategy by developing and delivering the right IT application landscape for the Finance business and by driving digitalization.

In the role of Senior DWH & DevOps DBA/Engineer, you will have a decisive influence on shaping the further development and operation of our business-critical Zurich Finance Datawarehouse applications in a modern and sustainable way and supporting Zurich Business on the further path to digitalization.


Finance Data Management enables and supports the high automation and effective operation of financial data and processes through modern finance solutions and effective data management. We implement various business projects in direct cooperation with the business units and are responsible for the smooth technical operation of the corresponding IT solutions and IT services in the finance area. Our agile way of working is guided by SAFe with the inclusion of DevOps and DataOps.


We are looking for a responsible and conscientious Senior DWH & DevOps DBA/Engineer to actively support these business-critical and high available services for Finance. This role is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and continuous improvement of the Finance Datawarehouse infrastructure within a high available (HA) MS SQL database system, technical coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing as a technical infrastructure expert to projects as part of an agile DevOps team.



What you will do


  • Insuring the availability of the Production DWH Server and Databases, including the related services, such as Master Data Services (MDS).
  • Working closely with the external partner team and promptly applying solutions to arising problems.
  • Assisting the Development team with applying best practice in regard to database development within an OLAP system specification.
  • Providing sole responsibility for maintaining lower environments; Development and System Integration Testing (SIT)
  • Working independently on introducing new improvements to the current production systems, designing and planning changes and creating technical documents to be provided to the external partner for deployment.
  • Participating in the on-going migration project from on-premises to cloud
  • Actively participating in discussions with business and stockholders regarding the continuous improvement of the service.



What you bring


  • You have a Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with a focus in IT or an IT-related field.
  • You have more than 5 years of professional experience as a DWH & DevOps DBA/Engineer  with a proven track record of operating and developing high available (HA) MS SQL databases.
  • You are a critical thinker with a hands-on mindset, looking for continuous improvement and challenging the status quo.
  • Desired technical skills: Microsoft database technologies, strong understanding of AlwaysOn and Availability Groups, High Spec infrastructure, ‘Master Data Services (MDS)’, columnstore indexing, data compression, automation of server migrations, task automation with SQL and PowerShell, Performance and tunning and execution plans, Data-tier Application (DacPac), Azure DevOps CI/CD, GitHub, Confluence
  • Strong communication and sense of collaboration
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, German language skills are an advantage
