Senior Risk Manager (100%)
Are you passionate about the value of risk management in high performing global organizations? At Zurich, our Group Risk Management function enhances value by embedding disciplined and conscious risk taking into our culture – ensuring risk reward trade offs are transparent, understood, and appropriately managed.
Within Group Risk Management, a dedicated central team focuses on strategic and operational risk types. As a Senior Risk Manager, you will help shape group wide risk governance frameworks and methodologies, lead Group-level risk assessments, and contribute to enterprise risk reporting for Zurich’s leadership, Board, Group Supervisor and other key stakeholders.
What you will do
- Group governance of strategic risk and operational risk:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of group-wide standards and related governance for strategic and operational risk management, including policy framework, guidelines, training and oversight.
- Lead the development and end-to-end delivery of Zurich’s key risk taker framework.
- Drive continuous improvement in risk management practices to increase effectiveness, reduce unnecessary complexity and deliver more consistent outcomes across the Group.
- Build trusted partnerships across first and second line colleagues across the organization, to collaborate and deliver together on shared risk management goals. Champion an enterprise-wide understanding of current and emerging risk topics and support continuous development of risk management capabilities.
- Represent the Group in constructive, credible engagement with the Group supervisor, sustaining confidence in the Group’s enterprise risk management framework.
- Risk identification, assessment and response:
- Monitor the internal and external environment and facilitate risk identification activities with internal subject-matter experts.
- Lead robust risk assessments, including strategic, operational and project, and evaluate internal controls in a risk context. Design relevant and decision-useful risk scenarios and conduct reviews that reveal emerging vulnerabilities, test resilience and trigger meaningful management action.
- Partner with Group functions and Business Units to convert improvement opportunities and economies of scale into demonstrably better risk outcomes for Zurich as a whole.
- Risk monitoring and reporting:
- Provide outstanding reporting on strategic, insurance and other key risk matters for Zurich leadership, the Board and other Group stakeholders.
- Elevate data-driven insight on strategic and operational risks, converting diverse information into forward-looking themes, early warning signals and actionable recommendations that improve risk outcomes.
What you bring
- Approximately 7 years of experience in enterprise risk, operational risk, insurance risk, risk advisory, consulting, strategy or a related field, ideally in an international insurance business environment.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline—such as economics, business administration, actuarial or finance—with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influential verbal and written communication skills, particularly in English. Ability to translate technical matters into clear, business-relevant insights for senior stakeholders.
- Strong expertise in ERM and ORM principles, methodologies and leading practices, including risk appetite frameworks, risk governance frameworks, risk assessment and mitigation techniques, and risk reporting practices. Knowledge of corresponding (insurance) regulation in Switzerland or equivalent regimes highly regarded.
- Strong expertise in disciplined operational execution, with the focus and accountability to turn priorities into high-quality results. Proven track record of high performance, reliability, continuous improvement, versatility and collaboration.
- Composure and sound judgement with a proven ability to work with others to navigate complex global and multidisciplinary issues combined with demanding deadlines.
