This is a fulltime hybrid role where you will be working from our office in Zaventem, Belgium.

 

Your role

As a Junior Surety Underwriter within Zurich Commercial Insurance Benelux, you will support our clients by assessing creditworthiness, managing guarantee issuance, and contributing to sound risk decisions. You will develop expertise in both financial analysis and client relationship management, working closely with corporate finance leaders, brokers, and colleagues across the Benelux region.

In this role, you will gradually build your underwriting capabilities while gaining exposure to client interactions and commercial opportunities within the Surety market.

Key accountabilities

  • Conduct financial and credit risk assessments of existing and prospective clients, analysing financial statements, budgets, and financing structures.
  • Prepare risk assessments and annual reviews to support sound underwriting decisions.Draft, issue, and administer guarantees and bonds in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Review contractual documentation and coordinate with clients, brokers, banks, and other stakeholders where required.
  • Monitor Surety exposures, including international programs, and identify emerging risks.
  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to building strong relationships with clients and business partners.
  • Support business growth by identifying opportunities to enhance client service, strengthen relationships, and improve internal processes.

About you

  • Master degree in Economics, Finance, Business Law, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with an interest in financial analysis and risk assessment.
  • Client-focused, proactive, and eager to learn in a specialised underwriting environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable working with IT systems and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English; French is an advantage.
